Do It-Life Is Too Short

There’s a Lara Casey postcard I have pinned to a board in front of my desk that says “You know all those things you’ve always wanted to do? You should go do them.” Such a simple phrase but how many of us go through the days not taking action towards all the things we want to experience. I’ve read that one of the most common regrets for dying people is not the things they did but the things they didn’t do. Really makes we wonder why!? Why then do people not take the time to create, live and experience everything they have a deep desire to? The common answers are most likely because of fear, doubt, and excuses that we make to ourselves. I believe some people are too afraid to chase after that one thing they know deep inside they want to make happen. We think we will live forever and tell ourselves “oh one day I’ll…” But guess what guys!? That one day may never come. None of us know how long we have to live, I know it’s sad and scary but it’s the truth.

When I think of my mom getting older, David (my boyfriend) and I being ninety years old sitting somewhere outside overlooking a beautiful scenery, it makes me a little melancholy. It makes me realize how time is so precious and that life is incredibly fleeting. When I catch myself thinking these thoughts I ask myself, I’m I being true to who I am and living and working towards the life that I want to create for myself and my family? That is why anytime I feel a nudge from above telling me –hey Martha, you need to do this! Anytime I feel pulled to do something I take small actions towards this because I don’t want to have the regret of –What if I would have…

Even though you may not know the end result of something you are working on, don’t worry! Keep on pushing on and trust the Universe, I promise you it will guide you.

So whether you want to run a marathon, visit the Sea of Stars in the Maldives, build a water well in Guatemala with the amazing organization Charity Water,   (yes these are things I want to do :)) Take the right action towards bringing them to reality. Take out a sheet of paper and write down all the things you’ve always wanted to do. You might not be able to do them all this year but start being consistent at your approach to making them come to life. Remember you’re never too young or too old to chase that thing that really lights you up inside.

So I want to leave you with this, what is something you have always wanted to do in your life and you simply haven’t?

Don’t get to the end of your life and have to ask yourself the dreaded question…What If I would have…? Today promise you will take the first step towards making it happen. No matter how small the action may be, it doesn’t matter. All that matters is that you begin!

Wishing you so much happiness, success and a lifetime of bliss!

I know it’s hurtful to say “one day I will etc.. ” because your just dying to do what you love. sometimes it’s so many personal issues, emotional obesity, and others you have to take care of that’s making us going after what we want in life. I try not to beat myself up for dreading my words or think of it as an excuse.. Well Technically it’s not an excuse if you don’t have the financial means to live that life or the sick relative that needs your help most of the time. I just try to think of it as one day my time will come. Everything will fall into place. I agree with you starting out small will get to close. Great post as usual Martha!
