Self-Discipline, we all want more of it! Whether it deals with trying to eat healthy, not spending above our means or simply trying to do 15 minutes of exercise each morning, self-discipline doesn’t seem to come easy for most of us.
Today I wanted to share a few tips with you on how to strengthen your discipline muscle.
Remove temptations
One thing I’ve personally been dealing with is cutting back on the number of sweets I eat. Sugar is addicting and it can be so hard not to crave something sweet after lunch time. What’s the solution? Remove them completely! It can be tempting when you’re grocery shopping and you see that Twix bar that you oh so love but remember you have the power not to take it home with you. Are you trying to spend less money this month? Don’t only set yourself a budget but actually give a few credit cards to someone you trust and tell them you need them to stay accountable to you. It’s always a great idea when you have an accountability buddy that can support you and will help you stay on track.
Reward yourself for a job well done
I’m not a big shopper to begin with but whenever I’m trying to save up extra money for something special I discipline myself to watch where my money goes closely. For me, it means cutting back on the amount of iced white mochas I will buy myself that week or maybe looking past that cute top I saw at Target. Most of the time these things might even be things that aren’t good for you or that you don’t necessarily need in your life. Once you can actually notice where you worked your discipline muscle don’t be afraid to reward yourself! After all, discipline does not always come so easy. Be mindful of how you reward yourself. Doing this trains your mind to see self-discipline in a positive light.
Stay Focused
When it comes to having self-discipline you have to be focused on your tasks at hand. Make sure to take time in the morning to get clear on what it is you want to accomplish that day. Visualize yourself achieving those tasks, meeting the right people, and having the breakthroughs you desire.
“In reading the lives of great men, I found that the first victory they won was over themselves… self-discipline with all of them came first.”
Harry S Truman
